A Plan for Teaching

Let’s Make it Clear

Teach me Your way, O Lord;

I will walk in Your truth.

Psalms 86:11

The key to developing holiness from the inside out is understanding. When people understand why we do what we do, they tend to take ownership of it. And as my book How to Teach Holiness stresses, the key to people gaining an understanding of holiness is good teaching. This why I have made available this 12-lesson plan for teaching many of the key ideas pertaining to holiness described in my book.

The lessons in this plan can be taught to an individual on a one-on-one basis, to a group of people within the assembly (such as a home group or a new believers class), or to the church at large, perhaps at a mid-week Bible study. The material follows the chapters of the book Jesus Bought a House, the companion paperback for those being taught. My suggestion is, before starting the lessons, ask each student to obtain a copy of the book. It can be purchased at a bulk discount by going to RoshPinnah.com, downloaded as a free PDF, or for those who prefer, the book is also available as an e-book on Amazon.com and other online outlets.

Once all students have a copy of the book, they should be asked to read the chapter (or chapters) designated for each upcoming lesson. This will help to drive the ideas more deeply into the students’ hearts and minds. The lessons are designed to be taught in approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The precise length will depend on the teacher. A few questions or discussion points are provided at the end of each lesson outline, and a quiz is provided, which can be used at the conclusion of the series.

To prepare, I suggest the teacher start by reading the chapter(s) in Jesus Bought a House that correspond to the lesson to be taught. He should then read through the lesson outline, adding his own comments and ideas as needed. Obviously this preparation should be done in an attitude of prayer.

The lesson outlines can be downloaded as MS Word docs. Downloadable Power Point slides are also available for each lesson. These downloads are free and without copyright restrictions. Once downloaded, the teacher may modify the outlines and slides in whatever way he finds useful. I pray they will be a helpful tool.

Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.
